Judge Berryl A. Anderson is the Chief Magistrate Judge of DeKalb County who oversees "The People's Court" and is responsible for small claims court, intake in criminal cases and violations of the DeKalb County Code of Ordinances.
Debra DeBerry, Clerk of Superior Court in DeKalb County is charged by the Georgia Constitution with the care, custody and control of DeKalb County’s records. In her capacity, she is able to observe trends in cases and has noticed an increase in both civil and criminal cases involving Mental Health issues.
The Mission of the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office is to protect citizens, engage in crime prevention measures, and work to provide peace of mind to DeKalb County residents. We ensure residents are protected by engaging in legally and ethically sound activities and operating efficiently while pursuing justice. We place an emphasis on assisting victims and preventing crime through community education and engagement programs. We offer peace of mind by treating all DeKalb County citizens fairly and equitably and with dignity and respect.
The Law Office of the Public Defender provides legal representation to those unable to afford an attorney in all criminal cases in DeKalb County. The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office works around the clock to effectively manage the jail facility, court services and the processing of warrants. The Gwinnett County Police Department is a nationally accredited and rapidly growing police agency located in the Northeastern quadrant of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The Department currently has an authorized strength of 878 sworn officers supported by 274 civilian employees with the responsibility of providing law enforcement services to approximately 800,000 residents within an area of 436 square miles. The Department is organized into the Office of the Chief and two Bureaus with four Divisions: Administrative Services, Support Operations, Criminal Investigations and Uniform Divisions.
The SSPD has worked hand in hand with our citizens to reduce crime and disorder. Our mission is “To Prevent Crime and Enforce Law through Problem Solving Partnerships.” Our first priority is to prevent crime and protect our citizens. When crime does occur, we aggressively enforce the law.
The Brookhaven Police Department is tasked with serving and protecting the city. The department strives to partner with the community in maintaining safety and order in the city. The Office of the Solicitor-General diligently works to make a better, safer DeKalb County by preventing and deterring criminal activity through professional and impartial prosecution of crimes. The Office and its staff are committed to upholding the laws and statutes of Georgia and DeKalb County, while closely working with our police and communities to develop strategies that prevent crimes before they occur.
